COMMENTS:

That suspended moment of aching anticipation. The Loved One steps forth into view. The world goes still. And quiet. A soundtrack of husky yearning and world-weary, always-already regret clicks on in your head. The momentum of real life falls away and is replaced by the slow-motion, heightened momentum of slightly dizzying desire. She floats toward you, with preternatural smoothness, not quite angelic, both too knowing and too oblivious. The light is in just the right place; it kisses her cheek. You watch her approach with a drunken sense of disjuncture. You realise you are holding your breath.
