COMMENTS:

The Sopranos Season 3 Episode 13. Uncle Junior begins to sing "Cuore Ingrata" at the wake of Jackie Aprile Junior. In the middle of the song the voice of Uncle Junior is replaced with three other songs whose lyrics match his mouth movements. We then cut between Uncle Junior singing and reaction shots of the people watching him in the restaurant. This sequence is exemplary of the show's experimentation with music, image and narrative. It also serves as an aural bookend to the season; this medley is similar to the "I'll Be Watching You/Peter Gunn theme" collage used in Episode 1 of the same season. This bracketing through formal techniques is a way to separate the season (as an individual unit) from the others while maintaining the overall unity of the show.
